Equipment

PDSHeart will provide leading edge technology, non looping and looping event monitors with auto trigger capability, at no cost to the Medical Center offices. PDSHeart was the first event monitoring company to introduce an Afib recorder to physicians office. In 2001 we launched the KOH AF Express. At that time this monitor was revolutionary, but today it is being replaced by another PDSHeart first: PDSheart was the first company to introduce the Dual Alert AF event recorder.

The Dual Alert monitor is 100% field upgradeable assuring that they technology is always up-to-date. The Dual Alert Afib looping monitor is the most versatile and technologically advanced monitor on the market. The monitor can be adjusted in the field to auto trigger at a range of tachy, brady and pause rates as well as asymptomatic atrial fibrillation.

PDSHeart will also provide leading edge technology “HeartOne” thumb plates. The HeartOne is a non-looping monitor that records lead 1 EKG by placing the patient’s thumbs on the device. The HeartOne is a more convenient replacement for the traditional heartcard. PDSHeart can also provide the traditional heartcards at the accounts request.

Inventory

Initial inventory placement into each location is equivalent to number of event monitors utilized in a two week period. For example an account utilizing 10 event monitors per week will receive 20 Dual Alert monitors.

PDSHeart utilizes a sophisticated inventory management system to assign “par” inventory levels based on 1, 10 and 90 day utilization patterns to ensure that our accounts always have event monitors available for utilization. Immediately after an account places a 30 day event monitor on a patient, a replacement monitor is sent via UPS / Fed Ex to replace the monitor being utilized. At the end of the 30 day utilization, the patient sends the monitor directly back to PDSHeart in a prepaid postal service envelope to be cleaned, tested and inventoried to be sent back into the field.

Reporting and Network Connectivity

PDSHeart utilizes PaceArt software for all event monitor reporting. Patients call directly into our tech center that operates 24/7. A friendly CCT technician will assist the patient or staff with the transmission of the baseline or event. Keeping the patient on the phone, the CCT technician will immediately scan the report for emergency notification criteria. If the arrhythmia falls within emergency criteria, the following will occur:

  1. The patient while still on the phone will be instructed to proceed immediately to the emergency room.
  2. The CCT technician will immediately contact 911 in case the patient becomes incapacitated.
  3. The CCT technician will immediately contact the physician via fax or phone (method determined by each specific account).

If a patient falls within notification range that is not emergency criteria, the CCT Technician will notify the physician via fax or phone within 15 minutes of receipt of the event transmission. All other events not falling within notification or emergency criteria will be analyzed and provided to the physician for professional review within 24 hours of receipt. Reporting is provided in the same fashion as the holter reports. Again, accounts set-up on PDSHeart Access can view and print all patient reports from any location with internet access.

Billing

PDSHeart requires no contract for utilization. PDSHeart will provide the technical component of the holter test. The technical portion of the holter test can be set-up of in one of two acceptable billing formats:

  1. Fee for Service – Account bills global code (93268) for entire procedure and PDSHeart is reimbursed for technical portion by billing the Medical Center a negotiated fee for service charge for each test.
  2. Split Billing – Account bills insurance for the hook-up (93270) and professional reading (93272) and PDSHeart independently bills insurance the technical (93271). PDSHeart never balance bills a patient for un-reimbursed charges.
